Installation Tips

Below you'll find a quick guide on how to install the PL1 and SC1.

Important: The PL1 path light will not work correctly without the SC1 controller.

PL1 Installation

  1. Dig or auger a hole about 16" deep.  If you are using an auger, use a 3" diameter bit.

  2. Fill the bottom of the hole with about 4" of pea gravel.  This will help drain excessive amounts of water.

  3. While inserting the PL1 into the ground, run the wires along the side of the casing.  Push down until flush.  The wires should be exposed from under the collar.

  4. You are now ready to connect the wires.

Wiring

  1. Use direct bury outdoor landscape lighting 14 or 16 gauge wire.

  2. The PL1 has black (negative) and red (positive) wires.  Landscape 2 wire typically has a "smooth" side and a "textured" side.  Designate the "smooth" side as negative and the "textured" side as positive.

  3. Connect the PL1 red wire to the "textured" landscape wire and the PL1 black wire to the "smooth" landscape wire.  Secure with a greased wire connector or shrink tubing.

  4. Bury all wiring in the ground at a minimum of 2" depth.

Installing the SC1 - Stand Alone

  1. Mount the SC1 indoors or outdoors.  Choose a location that is accessible for the lighting wire and close to a 110VAC outlet with GFI.

  2. Connect the lighting wire to the proper terminals.  Remember the positive and negative designations.

  3. For the "stand-alone" installation, ensure the Wi-Fi switch is toggled on.

  4. Load the Gulick Innovations Scheduler to you smartphone and follow the setup.

Installing the SC1 -
With An Existing Transformer

  1. Some larger existing lighting system have multiple zones.  If you want to run the PL1 path lights with an existing system you will need to integrate the SC1 to operate the PL1 path lights.

  2. Mount the SC1 next to the existing transformer.

  3. Create a jumper from the existing transformer to the SC1 input terminals. Common to common and 12v out from the transformer to 12v in on the SC1.

  4. Ensure the Wi-Fi switch is toggled off.

  5. Connect the lighting wire associated with the path lights to the proper terminals.  Remember the positive and negative designations.

  6. The controller will now operate the PL1 path lights with your existing system.

Changing the Color Temperature

  1. Turn the PL1 path lights on and wait until they fully deploy.

  2. Remove the top cap with the "G" on it by holding onto the shaft and twisting the cap to the left a 1/4 turn, then lift up.

  3. Here you will see the "Bob Switch" on the top of the lens.  Use the toggle to select the light temperature that you want. 2700K, 3000K, 4000K

  4. Re-install the cap and turn the controller off.

  5. The system is now ready for you to enjoy.
